Sunday 8/12, 6:00 p.m. PDT – Came, Saw, Conquered.
Team Dignitas have won the Western Clash without dropping a single Battleground.
Their opponents, the Leftovers, had an incredible showing overall in the tournament with pocket strategies that showcased heroes such as Cho'gall, Kerrigan, and Gazelowe. Their miraculous run this weekend will not be forgotten as they turn their sights towards qualifying for the HGC Finals.
"I wasn’t expecting to meet Leftovers in the finals, but they really deserved to be there, they played really well in the lower bracket," said Vilhelm "POILK" Flennmark of Team Dignitas.
Amazing two weeks in NA with bootcamp and western clash, best way to finish it off with a 11-0 run!— Wubby (@Wubbyz) August 13, 2018
The power of Team Dignitas proved too strong in the end, as they become the first team in the world to win two Western Clashes back-to-back! They will also be looking ahead to BlizzCon for a rematch against their greatest rivals, Gen.G Esports, who stole away their hopes of winning the Mid-Season Brawl for a second year in a row earlier this season.
"What do I have to say to Gen.G? We are going to take the HGC Finals trophy. We're more than excited to get a rematch and show them that it's time for Europe to win a BlizzCon," POILK said.
After a performance like this, it's hard to doubt him.
Congratulations Team Dignitas!
Sunday 8/12, 4:00 p.m. PDT – Get In Here!
Striking back after a tough 3-1 loss to Team Freedom yesterday, the Leftovers have secured their place in the Grand Finals! They have also earned a 3rd spot for Europe at BlizzCon thanks to the 'buddy pass' system implemented at the beginning of the year.
For Maksym "Mopsio" Szczypa, who fell with Zealots at the end of the Western Clash bracket earlier this year in Katowice against Team Dignitas, the opportunity for redemption and revenge has finally arrived.
Sunday 8/12, 2:00 p.m. PDT – The Reverse Sweep
Leftovers completed the reverse sweep, eliminating Method from the Western Clash with patient and calculated play.
Talked with @Mopsio last night about what it means to perform at offline events, and definitely think more people should be listening to what he has to say. If anything, he's earned it with not just 1, but 2 back-to-back clashes performances— HHE ishb00 (@ishboo116) August 12, 2018
Leftovers move on now to a rematch against Team Freedom, North America's last hope at taking home a Western Clash trophy this year. Team Freedom walked away with a 3-1 victory last time. Will history repeat itself or will the Leftovers push through to the grand finals?
Sunday 8/12, 1:30 p.m. PDT – 2 Million Bits Cheered
Heroes of the Storm fans from around the globe have cheered over 2 Million bits for their favorite HGC teams, closing in on unlocking the Deadly Chaos Wolf mount, the first global milestone for stage 2 of the program.
Team Dignitas are currently leading the Cheer leaderboards with nearly 3 Million cheers in total since the Mid-Season Brawl. You can find more information on Twitch Cheer here.
Sunday 8/12, 11:15 a.m. PDT – Team Dignitas Arrives in the Grand Finals
Team Dignitas are the first team to secure their spot in the Grand Finals of the Western Clash.
"The road to the finals been pretty smooth actually," said Joshua "Snitch" Bennet, Team Captain of Team Dignitas. "It feels pretty nice to make it to grand finals Gen.G style without dropping a map, I think we're feeling very confident."
Now the question remains, who will Team Dignitas face at the end of the day? "If Team Freedom perform like they did in the last series, they could definitely make a run for the grand finals," Snitch said. "Obviously, Method and Leftovers are two very good teams as well, I think it could really be any of them. They've all had really solid games and all of them are very distinctive and have very unique styles."
Sunday 8/12, 9:00 a.m. PDT – Day of Reckoning
The Western Clash festivities are underway as Team Freedom goes up against Team Dignitas, the tournament favorites. While Team Dignitas have proven themselves a formidable opponent over the course of 2018, Team Freedom put up quite the fight in game 1 of the series on Dragon Shire.
Team Freedom hit level 20 first, but were unable to catch out Team Dignitas for an advantagous fight. In the end, it was Team Dignitas who captured the Dragon Knight and pushed in for core, going up 1-0 in the series.
