After a roller coaster of a weekend in Kiev, a champion has emerged at the Western Clash. That champion is Fnatic. After proving that they are the top team in the HGC at the Mid-Season Brawl, Fnatic affirmed their dominance and sailed through the Western Clash bracket without dropping a single game. We had a chance to chat with Dob ‘Quackniix’ Engström after the win.

"We were the favorites and we feel we were the strongest team for sure right now so we expected to win but going [on] this dominant [run] throughout the tournament, I did not expect," said the team captain. "I try to always be humble and never disrespect anybody to make sure we don’t let our guard down. We didn’t expect it to be this clean, but we were expecting a win."

Fnatic seems to be in the middle of the kind of run that could take them all the way to the top of the HGC in 2017. With Europe asserting itself as the strongest region, it's easy to understand how high-powered teams in Korea might be rethinking their approach to international events. The reigning Western Clash and Mid-Season Brawl champions are well aware of what their most recent triumph means to other contenders.

"I think it’s really good that MVP Black is hungry for blood again. They’re going to be the biggest contender at BlizzCon for sure;" Quackniix continued. "This is motivation to keep up the skill gap we have over everyone else. BlizzCon is the goal, winning BlizzCon would be the dream. We’re going to do everything we can to stop them.

"I’m pretty sure we’re going to take a couple of days off, maybe a week. After that it’s straight back to the normal practice schedule which is six hours every day, one day off a week. If we start struggling, we will put more time in. Whatever is needed."

Congratulations to Fnatic!

Now that the Western Clash has ended, we turn our attention now to Taipei, Taiwan for the Eastern Clash. The games will begin August 11 and kick off with Korea’s MVP Black squaring off against the DeadlyKittens from Southeast Asia. Catch all the action right here at
